Evening guys,
I've been checking brake issues using the search function but have struggled to find an answer to my problems.
It's a 1995 P38a diesel and my problem is that the brake pedal is very hard with little to no feel to it. The pump works because when you turn the ignition on it runs for a short time and then goes off. You can hear it running every now and again after you've used the brakes. The ABS light is permenantly on but if you brake hard and lock it up in the wet the abs pumps so works. I took it into Land Ranger for something ele and aked them to code read the abs light, they said the pump isn't working but it clearly is. If the pump wasn't working would the brake pedal be spongey? If anyone could give any advice on what the trouble may be before I replace the pump?
Cheers,
Andy.

Perhaps the accumulator. Design spec was life of 8 - 10 years. Many have gone close 15 so well worth replacing. Once done will see the car through the rest of its life I reckon.

When you turn on the ignition, does the abs light flick off and back on very briefly,if not it is not doing its check. If it does flick off and back on quickly and then stays on even when you drive it has checked and found a fault, and if its only the yellow abs light that stays on, i would first check speed sensors at wheel for crud, wire damage or to see if they are seated all the way in. when the ABS ECU on mine failed, the yellow light did not flick on and off but all three lights were on.ABS,H/brake light an TC.
Hope this might be of some help.

Cheers guys. It's more the wooden feel of the brake pedal that is the issue though. With regards to the ABS ECU, would the ABS still work if that was at fault? I ask this because the ABS itself works if you lock it up.
Cheers again,
Andy.

Tis maybes not working on all four wheels though.
