Very stiff clutch

As per the title. Biting point is very low and it clinks into gear sometimes. Doesn't slip at all and hasn't got worse over the 300 miles I've owned it. If anything it's loosened up a bit. When I changed the rear brake adjuster the brake pedal eventually goes right to the floor if you keep a lot of pressure on it. I'm thinking master cylinder but can't see any leaks and the fluid isn't going down. Any ideas ?

what freelander is it tdi or td4 or 1800 petrol

seems like its actually either air in the system or a broken/bent slave cylinder bracket.

which may mean a broken diaphragm spring (expensive to replace)

I think the answer is to try and bleed it first and hope that's it.

Because replacing a clutch is not cheap.

Agree with Lenny. As for the brakes, our FL does the same - the master cylinder seals are most likely worn and leaking internally.

1.8 petrol. Screwed my arm up at work so wont be doing anything to it any time soon.

Fit this when the arm is better..Its easy, and job done. Been there a couple of times with your problem.

Before long if you carry on with the car in it's present state, there will be a strange twang sound, and your engine bay will be full of strange springs and bits of plastic as the whole slave cylinder disintegrates...No gear selection without forcing it, and you won't be going anywhere when in that shopping center car park, and its ****ing down and dark.

EDIT...Nearly forgot. Dribble a little oil down the clutch actuator arm whilst you are at it.

Nah. start it in first or reverse... and learn to drive without a clutch..
