So my 90, which was once a farm hack is nearly ready for its first MOT in a while; I've not had lots to to do besides the welding to get it to 'phase 1', where I think it stands a good chance of passing it's test, but I'm still aware there is bound to be something!

I've done the drop arm, ball joints etc, and feel it is pretty good, but I'm still new to defenders, and like other cars, I bet they have something up their sleeve a non-seasoned pro misses quite regularly - but what...?

Take fiat uno's and many Alfa's - their hand brakes were poor, and always gave trouble on the test and I bet there are many more examples for other brands too...

Buy the Haynes manual and it tells you what the MOT check list is, but you need to check the obvious ones like rot, tyre tread etc..

I have one already, and I'm aware of the checks but wonder where, besides corrosion, they normally slip up on?

Tyres good, rod ends good, bearings seem ok, zorst solid and complete and I've done all the welding etc.

Will wet swivels be ok if they're not dripping?

Yes if you wipe them outside test centre like I do lol. Off-roader so not worried just top up with one shot once in a while lol

Ha ha good plan! I recently changed the oil for one shot and was surprised to find one still leaks more than I'd like.

The hand brake drum thing (Damn name escapes me) on the prop is a bit damp too but it doesn't drip....

I expect to find a few niggles when I drive it but up until now I've only been able to in a small paddock - I can't wait!

Cheers
