I have been searching previous posted threads but not found exact answers to my question.

I have a defender 110 with double rear bilstein shocks, not sure of springs and air cushion inside spring. Vehicle have originally be rebuild for heavy load (safari and overland trips)

The problem is I rarely drive very heavy loaded and therefore the rear is very hard, when driving even slowly over speed bumps (Kenya have some serious speed bumps) the rear of the vehicle lift from the ground.

My question is whether this problem is caused by fitted coil springs, the shocks or a combination. What do I need to change to get softer ride?

Would prefer not to change the entire suspension setup

Start by removing the airsprings , depending on type they will need to be kept partially inflated to prevent them being damaged. The shocks if operating correctly should not make that much of a difference . You could try removing one shock each side , after the airspring if still not soft enough . If makes no difference refit and remove other pair of shocks . If still no difference then yoy can refit , and you will then be looking at swapping rear springs . HTSH

I fitted HD rear springs to my 300tdi 110. The ride height never altered no matter what I loaded it with, The ride was rock solid though.

I opted to stick with standard springs and shocks with my crrent 110 and simply added a set of assister springs inside the originals. It's a much softer ride and may be an option for you if you want a soft ride but wish to retain the load carrying ability.

Problem with springs is not many retailers tell you the spring rate let alone free height, lbs inch and more quite important details.

As ratty says std with your air assisters should be a behold start
