I have just got a reconditioned vcu, it doesn't have bolt holes for the damper like my old one did, dose it matter about the damper or dose it need it?, its for a 55 plate TD4.

If it doesn't have the flange to mount the damper, then it's from a V6 Freelander. It doesn't always matter if the damper is there, but sometimes it makes a vibration.
