Hi all,

Can someone tell me how the flex hose pipes (that come with a new fuel filter) are connected to the fuel line ? I can not see a clips there.

I am trying to unscrew the old ones at the filter end, but havin some trouble there. Am afraid that too much force is gonna break the old flex.

And what then ?

Have you got a picture of the filter? Don't remember mine coming with any flexi pipes when I replaced mine. Just undo the nuts on the filter and swop over

As above sounds as if you have a non-standard filter or its also used on another manufacture of vehicle so don't need the flexi pipe..

The new filter should be the same length as the original and have the same pipe terminations at each end also they do corrode just spray with easing oil first and just use two spanners either side of the gland.

Your'e right guys,

Its just a matter of unscrewing and refitting, in a normal case. But mine has not been changed for a long time, and the nuts are stuck a bit. I can't get them off. Sprayed lots of WD40, still waiting.

My filter is supplied with 2 bits of flex hose that connect on either side. Bearmach stuff.

Just in case the flex needs changing, I suppose.

How do I connect the flex to the fuel line, if I need to ?

Pictures to come soon.

Right,

This is what I got.

If I want/need to use the flex-hose how do I connect. I can cut the flexi on my car, insert metal tube to connect both flex's and fasten. But is that the way to do it ?

Would solve a lot of trouble though.

Mike

ps. not sure why pics are upside down. On my mac they are not !?

Nope not upside down on my iPhone either :)

Urm yeah if necessary just get some double end hose tails/joiners and 4 zero clips from a local hydraulic supplier, cut yours off, pop a clip over each pipe, shove together with the tails and crimp up the clips.

Filter is aluminium though so you could most likely kill it to death to get if off the hose fittings and still not damage the fittings. Clean them up with a pick and a wire brush and you're good to go, in theory.

Thanks Noisy,

Cut the flex on the car on one site and screwed the old filter off, new filter on and used 1 inch stainless tube and 2 Jubilee clips to fit the other side.
Was gentle on the fuel line, but after fitting and testing there was a small leak on the rear side. A little drop keeps forming over the period of 60 sec halfway the fuel line. the filter fitting is good, but the fuel line needs replacing. It is rusted all over and must have a crack in it.

Now does this new fuel line have to be steel tubing ? 3 feet flex hose seems much easier ? Or is that not allowed ?

Reg,

Mike

I got a leak near the tank in one of my fuel lines and it didnt take much noticing to see that everything rear of the front seats was pretty damn crusty, and i hate crusty, so i ripped it all out and replaced the full system with rubber hose. lovely job i made of it too, all the right fittings etc and i routed it where i wanted it, safe in the knowledge it was never going to rot through again.

wasnt a difficult job and i bought everything for 40 quid so id advise doing the lot if yu fancy it, certainly was satisfying (i have an unreasonable hate for steel fuel lines)

there is no mot/legality issue, especially if you use proper fuel hose.

cheers :)
