Hello again. Been talking to V8 Tuner today about my odd cylinder heads. Which ever way I go I'm going to end up with some ported modified heads.
The position I'm in now is modified heads will only work well with an uprated camshaft.
How easy is the camshaft to replace? I have worked out the first bit down to lining up the timing marks. Once I remove the timing chain and gears how does the camshaft come out?

Why waste you time and cash frigging about with ported heads and hot cams? The motor is fragile enough to start with and you ain't putting it in a TVR for track days.

Confused by why you can only have ported heads - why won't standrd fit??

To remove Cam: (hugely truncated)

Set to No.1 TDC
Grill Off
Rad Out
Timing Cover Off
Manifold off
Exhaust off
Heads off
Rods out (if using same followers - make sure you use a pice of card to place them in so they go back in the same place)
Followers Out - again remember the rod/follower combination
Remove Chain and Gears
Gently slide cam out - careful not to bang against the bearing faces in the block

On replacement NEVER PUT THE NEW CAM IN WITHOUT OILING THE BEARINGS FIRST....

It should all be in RAVE....

Ok, to bring you all up to speed. Cut a long story short. I have odd cylinder heads!
One has been gas flowed the other is standard. This is the result of letting some other arse wipe work on my car as I was to busy.
Head gaskets went again. Pulled the heads of myself this time to find the privious arse wipe for some reason fitted a odd head on the left bank! For what reason I don't know. The engine was brand new in the car when I brought it some 7 years ago.

Now I've talked to V8 tuner, they maybe able to bring the standard head in line with the modified one but I have been told that a modified head on these v8's only really work well with an uprated camshaft.

if the gas flowed head makes little difference without an uprated camshaft, why don't you leave it be and fix the original problem ie shim the rocker pedestals as per your earlier thread and as suggested by datatek.(as being the most likely cause for no compression on one bank)

The engine will still be unbalanced as the compression ratios will be different. Best option is a second hand standard head from the likes of Emmotts.
Probably cost less than the hot cam

Yes, this is the other option. I will still need to get both heads balanced

If you have 2 standard heads with the same measurement from the head to face there is nothing to do:confused:

Totally agree, I was thinking of buying just the one head and getting it mached to the standard head I already have.
There is a brand new pair of heads on eBay at the moment. I may just buy them.
