I've not long bought a 1999 Discovery 3.9 v8 auto. My question is about fuel economy. I regularly do a short journey to work of about 6 miles on urban side roads. In about a month from now I will be moving house.

From my new home I'm going to be traveling about 18 miles but mostly on a Motorway. Will my Disco use much more petrol than I'm using now because the extra mileage will be cruising along at a constant speed? Anyone got any experience on how these v8's do on runs?

it wont have time to have warmed up properly,so it wont be running efficiently.so in other words it will use loads of fuel, they are not known for their fuel economy.plus it is an auto so another thing to make it less fuel efficient.

I used to get 12 on a run in 110 defender 3.5 and about 15 from Rangy 3.9 on injection:)

The auto box will lock up at 53mph i think so find a lorry and sit behind it. I used to do this in m rangie and got a solid 25mph. Wowsers.

Possibly. Id hope for more but wouldnt know. If in flowing traffic id hope to get into twenties as an average but aint great in comparison to decent modrn mpg figures for euroboxes etc.

more like 17mpg - if your lucky

I do 12 miles to work, mix of town and country roads. Average over the week around 18mpg in 4.0 Rangey
