Exploring the idea of a V8 for my 110 hard top for reasons that you'll find in the Alternative Engines thread in the defender section. What is realistic fuel consumption and does anyone run one on lpg and wht does that cost / how does it run. Final thing, what's involved in swapping 200tdi for a V8 apart from the obvious. Thanks

gearbox I have a 260 hp quad cam conversion planned for mine

The main thing involved in the swap is an instant improvemet in the quality of life, smooth engine, great sounds and not surprisingly, a great deal of female attention..

".....a great deal of female attention."

Oh how i laughed....do they hang round at garages or is it the heady odour of lpg that does it!!!

still chucklin....:)

what you have to take into acount is a poorly installed lpg system will cost you an engine failure multipoint is the only way to go
many years ago i fitted a 4.2 into my dads 110 with a disco r380 gearbox and t box it cruised at 70mph at 1800 rpm did 20 to the gallon never missed a beat
so gas was not needed
if you have deep pockest a 4.6 tuned up with 280 bhp in a 110 should give 22 mpg unless you like the loud pedal
my rrc has 250bhp on a run 24mpg round town and playing 8 mpg!

so to recap you will need a new gearbox manual or auto t box with the hi final gear ratio disc brake rear axle will help to stop it too rad injection loom and ecu and a bit of time

You'll have to change the engine mounts. Not sure on gearbox mounts. What about fuel tank, pump and pipees?
You going for and RV8 or something else?

As for LPG I can average 16-18 mpg on gas. 22 on petrol.

I went from 200tdi to 3.9 V8.

Used Range Rover classic mounts welded on
Range rover lT77 with Defender rear LT77 housing so I could use Defender linkage
2.5TD rad with leccy fan and controller
Rimmerbros exhaust system
A range rover fuel pump will actually bolt into a Defender tank, you just need to extend the pickup on the pump.
Some coolant hoses and PAS hoses
And some wiring for the ECU/fuelpump etc.

And christ was it worth it!!!:D

My Disco is on LPG multipoint. It does 18/19 mpg on petrol and slightly less on LPG. If you work the figures back, the cost equivalent is 32.33mpg on gas. That is very good for a big 4L truck. The only advice I have is get the LPG serviced once a year with new filters and keep your ignition system in tiptop condition. Then it will run smooth and smooth as smooth can be..........
