Ill try and keep this short, im thinking seriously about fitting a 200 tdi manual into my V8 auto '200' model and was wondeering exactly what could be re used on my vehicle so save swapping it

can i use the current fuel lines and fuel tank with a diesel?
can i use my newly refurbished radiator with the 200
does the 200 tdi use the same engine mounts as the 200 v8

there seems to be loads on putting 200s into series vehicles but hardly anything on swapping engines in the same type of vehicle

It may be more cost effective to sell the V8 and buy a diesel.
There will be lots of things you need to swap so you may need a complete 200 to get all the bits without spending loads off money.
The rad may fit but im not sure as the TDi has an intercooler as well.
Dont forget you will also need to swop all the manual pedal box as well.
Not sure about the fuel lines but the TDi has the fuel filter in it as well.
Not a small job.

i can see you point but the ammount of work and new parts that has gone onto my disco far outweights the cost of an engine swap, even buying another complete vehicle just for the bits i need
which i might just do now

may i ask why you want to swop? the V8 costing too much to run or just wanna go swimming more? if its running cost either buy a LPG kit or save all the money you would spend on the conversion and just spend it on petrol:)

general cost as ive moved house and its further to drive to where i need to go , i like the v8 so might consider lpg how much would a kit cost?

Not too sure buddy mine was already installed, to be honest i couldnt do without it, cheap running, increased overall distance before you have to fill up, no worries with the MOT emmisions test and if you care its also better for the enviroment. Oh yeah and all the V8 grunt and rumble with tdi running costs!

I think you can install it youself but it has to be checked my an approved LPG installer to get it certified (check that though). Incidentally ive never had a cert since i bought the truck (it was going to be "sent on") and ive never had any problems getting insured 3 years later.

if you can go for a prins multipoint system, mine is only a LOVATO singlepoint (apparently mines also intended for smaller engines, pointed out to me by an LPG autotechnitian) but ive never had any problems with its performance.

just had a quick look on ebay and found this to give you an idea on cost: Range Rover LPG V8 kit parts on eBay (end time 07-Aug-10 13:33:07 BST)

it may be the way to go, I personally would choose an LPGd V8 over a tdi any day.

LPG is a great idea for anyone concerned with cost.

Tdis must be so lame to own/drive compared.

Either that or buy a run around car for 500 quid and keep the disco as it is.

The fuel tank is basically the same btw, just more breathers on petrol tanks.

Maybe something like this would do you. It isn't that had to fit it if your mechanical minded, and also once fitted you could have it check by someone if your weren't confident that it wont leak.

I think thats for the engine only not the LPG system aswel so I would ask 1st just to be sure.

But you get the jist of it, you can pick up a new system for 5 and secondhand anything under that mark.

He's breaking the car thats why I posted, and he might still have everything he requires. His will be a 3.5v8 too Because a 3.9 mixer wont fit but everything else will. Also that will probability be the system not wired into the lambda sensor's which would be easier to install.
