Hi All,
I recently pulled apart my VM on 1991 RRC and it's in a very sorry condition 😢. All parts are extremely worn and have decided to scrap it for a 200 tdi due to part cost and reliability.
I have a 200 tdi from a defender with radiator, intercooler etc.
However I want to know if the LT77 suffix G on my RRCwill fit the 200 tdi with the VM bell housing.
If you have done such a swap can you share what you did? Thank you!

Ask Ashcroft.
Well worth doing the rear main on the 200 before fitting, genuine only.

I'd stick with the VM. They were used in lots of other vehicles. They also go better than a Tdi.

Thank you. I've decided to go with 200 tdi so no more VM. To rebuild is $2500 + labor so it doesn't make sense.
I looked up on Ashcroft and a special spigot bush and clutch friction plate, STC1166 and However it's not clear it a new bell housing is needed or not? Thank you!

What country are you in?

Are you paying for the conversion too? Can't see that working out any cheaper.

Thanks! I will be converting it myself with support from a shop. I don't have confidence in the VM and the estimate only includes the top end heads, cylinders, rings etc. with pistons and any bottom end work cost/benefit doesn't make sense.

I did this many years ago on my 89 RR , I used engine and box out of a discovery as the box input shaft is different on the VM think defender turbo is in different place to the disco and had to make and weld on new engine to chassis mounts.

That's what I've found as well. The input shaft is different. However I don't know if it's just diameter or also length. Ideally I can reuse the VM LT77 as finding a discovery one here is tricky.
