I took my two week old L405 out on the Discovery Birthday run yesterday and drove across the deer park at Mount Edgecombe. http://www.discoverybirthdayparty.co.uk

Being at the very back of the convoy and knowing that it could get slow and a bit muddy, I put it in low range. The instruments instantly morphed (which was spectacular in itself!) from this:

to this...

None of this was in any of the sales bumph. How brilliantly simple is giving it a 60 mph speedo when in low range? (ignore the mpg figures, it's usually around 27-28 on the lieometer!)

I've reported this on the L405 site and been met with the forum equivalent of blank looks. I'm not sure that anyone knew that they had a low range option on the car, or even knows what it does. I'm guessing that none of that is going to be a surprise here...

PS: Here's how it looked mid way through its second week, so we're not all looking for a space outside Waitrose (before you say it...)

Nice to see an L405 venturing of the black stuff, most round here wouldn`t even go up on a grass verge.
nice idea with the dash, looks like it shows you all the wheel travel ,
I do like that green it looks really nice, suites the car :).

How cool. Looks like Lizzie has plenty of surprises in store for you. Nice to see she has no issues getting a bit dirty. How did she do on the birthday run? I bet there were a few shocked faces at an L405 turning up to play :)
Is Ben enjoying his new taxi?

@ Brian,
Got to get it mucky! Seems such a shame not to use at least some of what it can do :) The graphics only really show wheel travel and the diff locks automatically going between locked and unlocked and stages between. It's still entertaining to watch!
Glad you appreciate the green. Unfortunately, the silly sods have only just discontinued Aintree Green; now the only way you can get any green is to pay £3,570 for a "premium" option

Again, no issues getting a bit grubby. Got a raised eyebrows at work last week, when the first proper layer of mud was applied while getting around a blockage on the A30 (just north of Truro) :D

Birthday run was great! Everyone seemed fine about a L405 turning up; someone with a D1 offered to do a straight swap and the one guy in the Classic helpfully pointed out that he'd go a "proper" one... a good bunch. I think turning up, with a 405 already covered in cack, probably helped!

Ben seems okay with it and he seems to appreciate how low the bottom tailgate is when the upper half is left open.

I wonder if JLR even know if that HUD exists, it was probably put in during someone's lunch break as a joke, never expecting anyone to know about it. Ring your local dealership and ask them if it is a fault. ;D

Answer - no, they weren't aware!

You could have a point. I reckon they're finding out if any L405 drivers ever use the TR programs and low range. Am I the first one to ever use both?!

It might be their idea of an Easter Egg...

You probably are, other than the development/test drivers, I suspect no one outside of JLR would take a RR off road, let alone off road enough to require low range.

Super.
Probably a config issue.
look at the time display...strange to me...
sorry know nothing about L405
Love the look
Since the mileage is different by quite a chunk, I imagine one was taken as new/stock image and the other is OPs photo.
