Oh dear, after deep wading last week and forgetting to put me plugs in:doh: now this;

Driving down dual carrdge way noticed diff lock lever over to left (in high). Have no working diff light so did'nt notice. Christ knows how many miles i've done, must be at least 50.

Never driven in DL High before, so guessing maybe one of the kids kicked it over whilst clambering in. Stopped quick as poss and pulled out of lock position.

No nasty noises, no big bang, so I'm hopping it was not pushed over enough to engage. Any tips please for a check list for damage for this mornings maintenance activities?

Right. Just jacked up each corner in turn to do wheel spin check.

Out of lock (apparently!) Each front wheel will turn, so quess thats out of lock. Both back wheels are engaged. Is this right? When I've read about jacking up a wheel to test, no one mentioned the back would be locked in either case (could just be being dumb here:eek:). EDIT - Take the handbreak of idiot.

Ok, some success. Pulled conectors of the the Diff switch, cleaned them up and crossed the circuit manually. Yehey first time I've seen the dash light come on. So that circuit works. Could still be the switch is faulty or warn (new one on order).

Probelm is I can't get into Diff lock to check it:mad:.

Off roading last week other drivers said I definately had wheels spinning front and rear, so looks like I can get lock of road, but damned if I can do it for testing. I've pushed, shoved, driven back and forward and even found some gravel to go round in circles, backwards and forwards to no joy.

Can anyone say if it's possible I'm only getting diff lock when wheels are loosing traction and spinning:confused::confused: Anyone experienced this?

just jack 1 front wheel up and spin front wheel by hand you will feel when it goes in out ,switches prc2911 often fail ,wound in too far they will stop diff lock dog sliding in /out properly .diff lock dog is pushed by spring and so is not positve movement with lever, adjustment is on eye bolt on linkage screw in/out

Cheers. Tried that too, although only half a dozen spins. Wont go in. Think I'll swap out the switch as a maintenance job. Still not sure why I can, apparently, get diff lock off roading but can't lock it in at home. If ten minutes driving in circles on gravel wont do it, I don't think jacking up and spinning a wheel for much longer will do it either:(.

Wont you have 4 wheels spinning anyway in mud as it is permanent 4 wheel drive? Diff Lock is there to lock front and rear diffs to turn at same rate...

Nope drive will go to the wheels with least resistance on each axle both centre diffs will spin at same speed. but unless the axles have locking diffs as well, then the wheels are free to turn at different speeds.

Nope

central Difflock sends power to rear wheels if the front spin but you still have the diffs in yeh axles so if one front wheel & one rear wheel spins (axle twister) yeh stuck! only way to get 4 spinning wheels is with axle diff lock front and rear!

To test the central difff lock I stick a gut trolley jack under front diff to get front wheels off the ground and try and go forward with central diff engaged !

Close but no prizes central diff locks both props, so they turn at same speed regardless of what the front wheels are doing. Ya rite about the wheels spinning on each axle though. PS did ya not read my post first??

aqs long as both props are turning at different speeds diff lock dog wont want to spring in it will only do it when the two align the only way to check adjust is as i said earlier ,as linkage wears adjustment may be necessary to fully go in /out

Thanks for all the comments. I decided not to worry about it too much and went to the pub:D. Feel much better now:rolleyes:. However:eek: no one has yet replied as to why I apear to get diff lock when playing in the mud, but can't do it in test mode!

p.s. Just going to make a smoked back bacon and camembert french stick, with a side of soave. So do not expect a reply any time soon. Hic!:D

If you are not getting it in test mode yeh not gunna get it in the mud either!

Eat yeh sawny, sober up and stick a jack under yeh front diff- Worst that can happen is that you go through yeh rear garage wall :D:D

Little plastic bushs wear on the adjuster arm, same bushs as on the hi low linkage two per joint 49 pence each.
