A good diesel estate would be money better spent than on a freelander.

I've a Volvo V40 [Diesel Estate] so maybe I'm better off with what I've got.
My job though I do about 1000 miles a week and most of it is country lanes and back roads... I just can't decide.

There's a P38 Holland and Holland for sale just up the road, but I cn't imagine with it's 4554cc petrol engine how much that would cost a week to run.

By country lanes I assume you mean normal lanes surfaced with asphalt. You do not need a 4x4 vehicle to cope with those!

My Subaru mechanic let me have the garage loaner last winter whilst my wife's car was in for some work. It was an old Legacy with selectable 4wd and the 2 litre non turbo engine - it coped perfectly well with the snow and ice on tarmac, probably better than my S3. If you need a car to get you places, buy something reliable. If you need to go off road, through very deep snow or mud, or just want something unusual and fun buy an old landy. If you want to get there through anything and have LOADS of money, buy a new landy.
