hi there, desperate for some help with my td5 disco

its a 2002/2003 plate td5

its become hard to start and then after 3-4 miles is loses all power and eventually cuts out

it will fire again but again its hard to start and does the same again

we have replaced the fuel pump (from land rover), fuel filter and housing, injector seals, injector loom and fuel ecu etc

any please have any ideas as to what we can do? really need the car :( and its costing me a fortune with it being at World Wide Landrover all the time

many thanks

Have you checked the new pump is flowing enough fuel to the fuel pressure regulator? Take the supply hose from the pump off at the regulator and put it in a bucket then cycle the ignition. Should be very good fuel flow at more than 60psi. Careful you dont get it in your eyes!

Is the fuel regulator blocked or faulty? If you disconnect the fuel hoses and unscrew the fuel hose stubs from the regulator block there is a very fine mesh filter inside the pressure block. Very carefully ease it out (it is very delicate and easily crushed) and wash out in petrol before putting it all back together. Check the O rings on the stubs while you do this.

cheers for the advice

just rang the garage

its had a brand new land rover fpr :(
Make sure they have fitted the correct gasket as the FPRs are different internally on EU2 and EU3 spec engines. They look the same but the EU3 FPR has an external fuel spill pipe that runs to the front of the cylinder head whereas the EU2 spec engine has the fuel spill pipe within the cylinder head.

You can not use an EU3 gasket on an EU2 FPR as one of the gasket holes does not line up correctly and restricts fuel flow. The last time I went to my local LR spares supplier he got both types out and did a comparison as several customers had come back complaining that the gaskets supplied were wrong. Unfortunately the LR part number is the same for both gaskets even though they are different ?????

I have just done 2 TD5 discos last week with exactly the same symptons as yours, both were rectified by simply changing the injector washers & seals, I should check that genuine Land Rover seals & washers have been used as I have fitted non genuine in the past & still the same problem but when replaced with genuine fixed ! There is also no way of telling one of the seals may have been damaged during installation !
