Kinda stuck need advice, P38 Auto D. EAS fault on dash. Have cable and laptop which I normally use to clear this fault. Unfortunatly, the laptop is 200 miles away. I have the cable with me, I have borrowed a laptop and thought I could download the .net framework XP and the software from rswsolutions website, and solve my problem. But not so easy, the TX buffer one on rhs column is showing alternate FF and 1. which means the communication is not consistant and idle is on red.
I cant understand why there is a coms error, only the laptop is diffrent.
Does anyone know why this happens or if there are any settings i need to configure to get this to work. I am convinced it has to be something to do with a laptop or USB/Comms setting. Alternatly if there is any GOOD independant Land Rover dealership which know what they are doing regarding new height sensors and charge a resonable rate. then please reply and advise.
Thanks in advance. I know there has to be some good souls out there!

you need to find out what com port xp has assigned to the cable then set the software to that com port.

So, when i plug in the usb cable, can I choose any USB port on the laptop?
I know on the software only COM port 4 is the one that is accepted. Also how do I know if the correct drivers have been installed for the cable?
can I call you please PM your number.
thanx

you don't need drivers for a cable, and it doesn't matter which port you plug it into

Actually, the laptop was for some reason not showing in device manager the com port, I used driver wizard program and it loaded up the latest driver for my cable.
I had to have the cable plugged in and then update driver, using driver wizard.
all is now fixed. thanks to all that provided/offered advice.
btw, the error message on the eas was - pressure signal constant high
and vehicle has moved. ANYONE know what this means?

vehicle has moved is usually when the car has been jacked or airbag has lost a bit of air and moved the height sensor. dont worry too much!!!

dunno bout the other one tho!

well that's an adapter then NOT a cable

Since the RSW Solutions software does not support USB operation, the earlier reference to cable by Canyon had to mean he was using a USB to serial adaptor. My comment was made on that basis.

I'd be interested to know of any "cable" used with a PC that requires a driver. Top marks for stating the frigging obvious:mooning:
