My Discovery is turning into a nightmare, disconnected the battery last just to see if it would reset the ECU, was surprised to find a total inadequate battery fitted and the terminals were rather loose, still new battery would sort that.

Went out tonight to reconnect it and nothing flat as a pancake, so got the landy battery only to find it was the opposite side terminals and leads wouldn't reach. so tried to use it it to jump-start the beast, no go, chimes go of S&M lights flash and D flashes with a line through it, well the 110 hasn't been used for a week or two so tried to jump-start it OH motor same result.

So what would cause the s & m and D to flash and motor not even turn over and could happen while the motor has not been moved.

Got the battery on charge at them moment see if a fully charged battery would help but this seems to me to be something more serious, what do you think?

chances are that you're using inadequate jump leads. Instead of using em to jump the landy, try connecting em up and then having a fag or cuppa to give the battery a chance to get some charge in it before trying to start it. How were you connecting the leads up? If you are connecting to the negative of the duff battery that won't help. If you are connecting to the engine instead then you need to make sure you get a good connection.

duw duw rydw i yn gog hefyd!;) know any decent landy mechs in the area that dont charge thru the nose?

I've been using Steve (Mon 4x4, Pentraeth) for any job's I can't get sorted, always treated me well & his price's are'nt too bad for an indy.

Ive been usin a nice gentleman by the name of Andy John of Barmouth for anything i cant do, he's **** hot and in the past if Ive had a problem he's diagnosed it and told me what to do instead of doing the work himself and charging me for the privelige most mechs would just say "leave it here and i'll have a look" even if it was something as minor as leads or plugs, he on the other hand asks "right have you checked your plugs and leads" a true gent.:)

Not a cheapy set from Halfruads but a heavy duty set we use to start tractors, so that was not an issue nor is my jump start technique.

Even with a fully charged battery it will not start.

:eek::eek: very embarrassing this, had a very nice man from the AA out this morning.

And he rechecked everything I had done there's me saying yep done that, done that, when he pulls out a seemingly innocuous 10amp fuse, yes blown somehow I had missed it when I put my tester across them  Amazing that one little fuse could take out half the electrics on the car.

Down side is when we started it smoke came out of the alternator and guess what here in farming country can't get one until next week:mad:

So a lesson learnt when you have checked the obvious and found nowt wrong, check it again just in case.
