Uneven idling, TD4

Our TD4 is idling a bit erratically. Its fluctuating around 50rpm. Its not all the time but pretty often. Any ideas where to start looking?
 
Idle speed on modern 'fly by wire' diesel engines relies on a stable signal from the throttle position sensor. Take a look at the top of the throttle pedal to ensure that the sensor or associated wiring is not loose etc.
