Hi, At xmas the Mrs bought me a 2 hour off road training session with Stuart Walker from Ultra Adventure Driving.
Ultra Adventure Driving - 4x4 offroad driving courses Wales gift vouchers, group bookings and corporate team building, demonstration days
And I just wanted to share my experience, I went up last saturday to a site near Wrexam and had an amazing time and learnt loads. We were in a 200 series TDI Discovery which I really enjoyed as owning a discovery myself I really wanted to see what these machines are really capable of and I must say I was pleasantly surprised, these machines can get practically anywhere, the only mods were mud tyres and a dog guard.
I learnt how to ascend and descend hills properly, fully understand the difflock now, how to drive through water, how to safely reverse back down if i cant make it up a hill 1st time, how to get back down if I stall, how to cross a ditch, how to drive along a slope sideways, learned about cross axles, how to risk assess the slope before attempting to ascend/decend and how to create a bow wave to break up the frozen water as so you can then safely cross the river amongst many other things.
I would recomend to anyone trying to get into off roading to consider going on a course like this as I have played off road on my own for some time and thought I knew my stuff but definately went up a massive learning curve last weekend by being taught by somebody who really knows thier stuff.
Just thought I would share this with you guys as im buzzin by what ive learned and would def recomend to any budding 4x4 drivers out there.
