Having owned a Freelander 1 I know the importance of keeping the tyres matched, I would also replace as a set of 4. I now have a Freelander 2 so are these as prone to damage due to miss-matched tyres?

Not quite so prone to damage, but it's best to keep a 4WD vehicle mechanicals rotating at the same speed.
I personally always use identical tyres all round on a 4WD vehicle.

It's my experience that all 4 wear at about the same rate. Unfortunately that means shelling out a thick wedge of dosh for 4 at a time.

I had 2 new ones on the back of mine for the WOF a couple of weeks ago.

I rang my normal place up and asked for 2 to be fitted - they checked and said that the GT Radial MaxMilers don't come in the size I want, must be discontinued. I could have another GT Radial that was very similar. Bit upset, but booked it in.

Got there and they set to replacing them and the bloke comes over to me and says "You know your car has 195s not 185s" - oh bugger. I'd given them a bum steer. So 195 Maxmilers went back on it :D
