Hi,

I'm looking for some tyres and looking at the General Grabber AT to replace the Avons on my D2.

I'm not 100% sure what size to get - I've got 16" 8J P38 rims with 255/65 tyres, but looking at some places on tinterweb the max recommended for 8Js is 245 with recommended at 225 / 235.

Would it be better to come down to 235 / 245 or keep it at 255/65?

Maybe same size as the Avons were, if you were happy with them.

I have 235 75 R16 on my V8 D2, they are good.

I was going to keep to the 255/65 but they look a bit like a balloon at each corner so wondered what else I can stick on 8j wheels.

If thats a standard D2 rim, as above^^^^^^^^^^^^^^.
I have Nexen ATs, about 75 quid each, good for road and towing, fine for gentle off road use as well. If you want more off road, try a mud tyre same size.

255s are fine on 8 inch rims - LR standard fitment on the 18inch wheels

To clarify. Range Rover P38 / D2 8J rims. 255 / 16 / 65. 255 / 18 / 55. Are standard fit. 235s are only fitted to P38 / D2 7J rims. A 235 on an 8J rim would look a bit odd.
