I just got a flat on my passenger front side. When I had a good look the tyre edge at the engine side had been rubbed back to the metal. It looks like the spring cover has been rubbing the tyre in high speed corners. Is this a thing or is it just done shocks. My tyres are 225/55/R17 and I know nothing about cars.

The tyres shoudn't rub on the lower spring cup unless you're cornering hard on really under inflated tyres, and you'd have to be a maniac to be doing that. Or your spring cup has come away from the strut. Sounds like you need someone who knows what they're looking at to have a look at your suspension. As ever, detailed pictures will help a lot with diagnosis.

There's no way the spring cups can touch those small tyres. I'd suggest your tracking is out and needs adjustment. You should be aware that you can't just fit any tyre that is the same size. A Freelander MUST have 4 identical tyres with the least worn on the rear and all pumped up to 30 Psi.
