Tyres and radious arms

i have a 2004 td5 90 have a set of disco free style alloys and 265/75/r16 insa turbo s tracks with the big lugs their catching on the arms , i don't want spacers on or don't want to cut my lock so i am going to change them for BF Goodrich MT's so i need to know whats the bigest size i can have with no problems i'd like to get as close to 265 as i can

just not sure yet i might put them on steels and keep them for off road use , im undecied

If all you're bothered about is the height fit the standard size 235/85... no loss of lock, no spacers, simple!

I have 255/85 R16's on my 110 and the lock isn't too bad and the don't rub on the radius arms.

yea i was thinking 235/85 alrite , steering lock is important as i be in tight spaces lol

I ran 265/75 R16 BFG AT's on Boost alloys on my old 03 Def 90. Had no issues. Could it be the offset of your alloys?

Further googling seems to show its common on your choice of alloy.

You can wind out your lock stops and further reduce the turning circle. (It is free though)
Change your rims and subsequently offset.
Or.... as you said change your tyres.

yes it seems a bit of an issue with the freestyles , with the 265/75 insa's it seems if they didn't have the big side lugs it would only catch very little , i think i might go for the 235/85, i was going to spacer out the insa's but i don't want to be replacing bearings alot

get the offset right on the alloys and you can get 265's in there no problems. in fact i have bfg mt's 35" ers on there at the mo with no spacers just big offsets and it turns tighter than as standard!

Whats wrong with limiting the steering slightly?

Do you trial the vehicle?

If you trial I wouldn't use Alloys for a start.

I would stick to those tyres and limit full lock slightly if not competing.IF I was using it for competition use I would get some Max offset modulars and BF all terrain tyres for the Alloys not such a mean look but perfect for daily use and occasional greenlaning. IMO

yes i think i'm going to get me a set of modulars for the insa's and put 235 BF's on the alloys for everday road going

fit 16" disco steels....7" ones.then ya can run 265...

steel disco rim offset is ****e agreed they look better but the offset and the ammount of available lock is limited i got some rare series 2b rims with loads of offset almost enough to stop 900s or 37 inch tyres rubbing the radius arms without adjusting the lock stops but they are tubed rims only unfortunatly so will be used on my trails motor max offset modulars are similar offset but make sure you buy the max offset opposed to the normal offset as desired by many competition trials people

So you don't want to fit spacers, but you'll quite happily fit wheels with a larger offset which will have exactly the same impact on your bearings???

the mods would only be on about once a month for a day just for off road , i wouldn't be running it on them all the time , thats why am keping the freestyles on for everyday road use

also the offset rims were and have been fitted to series 2b which i believe has a higher load rating than a standard defender yes slightly increased load on the bearings and steering components and will not aid handling but are perfect for his intended use
Ido not like wheel spacers i have seen too min come loose due td either over tightening or mis use also over a certain thickness are illegal for sone trials events which he may or may not be interested in doing currently or some day
