Hi, i have 4 x Federal MS 351 A/T Tyres. Size is 205/80/R16 1045 XL

What is the correct tyre pressures to use for Normal Road use / off road??

Many thanks,

Al

How long's a piece of string?

One-up no luggage etc you might go lower down the range, fullly loaded towing a caravan you want more pressure in the tyres.

I used to change my pressures regularly, but now only change when off-roading where I lower the pressures to about 22/25 psi all-round. On-road where I mostly go three persons and luggage and tow most weekends I run with 30/32 fronts and 34/36 rears. I run BFG AT's at 31 x 10.5 x R15

Look on the sidewall of the tyre, it'll have a load rating somewhere, with a maximum pressure for highest loading, work backwards from this.

Hi, im not going to be towing anything at the moment and theres only one or two passengers with me no luggage.. I'll have a look at the load rating when im getting back home tonight.

Cheers,

Al

Hi, ref.. "it'll have a load rating somewhere, with a maximum pressure for highest loading," what am i actually looking for??? I have some photos on my laptop of the wheels so i might be able to see on them..

Cheers,

Al

On my BFG's it's a small line near to the rim ..

On mine, if the pic doesn't come out properly (mobile phone camera) it reads "MAX. LOAD 1030 Kg (2270 LBS.) AT 550 kPa (50 PSI) COLD" ...

BUT THAT'S FOR MY TYRES, YOURS ARE LIKELY TO BE DIFFERENT

From that I'd reckon that 50 PSI is the highest pressure they can be pumped to and that depending on what weight I put into the Disco or tow, then I alter pressure downwards from there.

OTOH, playing things by ear, 30 psi all round with a couple of psi lower at front is nearly always a reasonable compromise TO START FROM. I then just adjust pressures from there to suit how the Disco 'feels' when solo, loaded, on-road, off-road and towing.

To be honest on-road it's a moot point how different the thing feels between 25 and 35 psi ... it can be felt, but mostly when you know your vehicle well. Off-road the differences from 30 to 20 psi can really be felt quite a lot ... lack of grip at higher pressures, on wet and mud, and more wallowing at low pressures when going above, say, 20 mph .. ;)

Horses for courses, start at a known reasonable pressure, add or subtract for the feel later .. ;)

Hello,

I have 32PSI in the rears and 30PSI in the front. Use them on the road everday and the wear rate seems to be fine. When I go off road drop them all down to 24 PSI

Many thanks for that, i checked the max psi which is 50, and i'll never need to go any where near that!
Cheers,

Al

my tyres are Kumho Venture M/T, 205/80/r16, same size/aspect etc. I go by the workshop manual recommended pressures for radial ply tyres of that size and that's 28 psi on the front and 34 on the back.
