Having major problem with local tyre companies identifying tyres for my 2006 FL1
Orig tyres were Mich synchrone 215 65 16 102h
Tyre people are trying to tell me 98h will be ok ???
I tow a caravan and feel uneasy as why were 102 fitted if 98 would have been ok?
Has anyone else had this problem ?
Question is - can i fit 98h or stick to orig load rating?
I do not go off road so any advice on what brand tyres are best to fit?
Iam looking at michelin, (latitude Cross) but being told they are suited more for road & off road were as latitude diamaris is ideal road tyre but only available in 98h !!!
Latitude tour HP is available but not sure what it is like.
Can anyone give me any advice or recommend any other brand.
Many thanks

The Latitude Diamaris tyre is a normal road tyre yes, but you don't want that, especially if you value your 4x4 ability in winter.
The Latitude Tour HP is a M&S tyre, the sort of tyre the car was originally specified with. Lost count of the number of stuck 4x4's i've seen in winter who are running normal road tyres and can't get anywhere! Doesn't matter if you go off road or not, fitting the correct tyres will save any embarrassment, and will still ensure that the car will do what you want it to do whenever you want it to do it.

The 102H Synchrone's were XL tyres (extra load), you don't necessarily need them and a lower rating will still work fine, although if you're towing a caravan, i'd tend to stick to the higher load rating.

Try Pirelli Scorpion STR or Goodyear Wrangler HP, these are the other 2 tyres that the Freelander was specced with when new. I ran Scorpion's before I went AT, and never had any bother, dad runs Wranglers on his FL2 and swears by them, gets 35-40k miles to a set.

This was covered in another thread a few days ago, although that thread was about fitting normal road tyres, but the outcome was the same

Do you often drive with 1500kg in the back at 130 mph? …

those be the 'latitude's i recently had fitted ..
( was told they are the replacements for the prev. 'synchrone's )

in addition to:

i find .. that at the same psi of 31 that i normally use .. the latitudes don't grab at road cambers 'n ruts ( etc ) as much as the scorpion str's did .. had to up the scorpions to 33psi to counteract that behaviour ..

how they wear .. 'n what they're like in snow .. or mud 'n such .. remains to be seen

if they wear well .. i'll be buying them again .. if i can afford them :)

How would you be altering anything? The M&S tyres were specified from new, and it was often luck of the draw (or what they got a better deal on at the time) as to what tyres the new car came fitted with

If you go for big AT's or something then thats a different story with insurance
