Hi,

I have a slow puncture on one of my tyres. I have just bin to a tyre place and said that it is too close to the tyre wall to put a plug in. They said the only option is a new tyre or a major repair which will cost £50 and the nearest plac round here that does them is 50 miles away. The tyre is too big for an inner tube apparently.

Here is the problem. I can't get a tyre until monday but I need to travel upto preston on sunday. I would normally put the spare on but that is 9 years old and I'm not sure if it would hold up to long trip.

Will the tyre with the slow puncture (and i mean slow its taken nearly 2 weeks to deflate from 40psi to 30 psi) hold up to 4 hours of motorway driving?

Will the 9 year old spare that has never left the spare wheel carrier in all that time be better?

Does anyone know any other quick fixes (such as the tyre repair kits from halfords tho i suspect the puncture is too close to the tyre wall for this either) that might work? What about superglue? I'm trying to think of anything that might work.

I wouldn't describe 2 weeks to lose 10psi as a puncture even. It's so small I'm surprised the tyre blokes could even find it. They're probably trying to pull a fast one and sell you a new tyre. Just use it and if it goes down bigtime put ther spare on.

its defo a puncture. I was watching them do it and saw the bubbles from the puncture finder stuff they spray on. The tyres are 275/75 R16.

I quite happy to run with it as it is and just top it up every couple of weeks. Was just wondering if I'm likely to get a blow out from 4 hours on the motorway.

only if it's really boring, and yer'll have to ask her nicely and promise her a handbag or a shopping trip - and don't lose concentration:D

You might, but then again you might not. What you need is a clairvoyant, or maybe a soothsayer or a shaman of some sort. Try posting in the See Into the Future section or failing that do the driving and see.

You could put some of the stuff that motor bikes use in the tyre.
It's sort of a foamy gel that seals small holes. Meant as a get you home but .... I had a tyre that slowly deflated over a week or so but was still OK after six months when I used it.
Sold the motor so dont know how long it would have lasted.

You got a Landy. You got breakdown cover?? ;)

Just do the drive. The likelyhood of the tyre that is on blowing and then the tyre you have as a sapre being a problem....you're one unlucky SOB.

That's when you call the AA, RAC, Green Flag, Bodgit and Scarper...whoever.

Enjoy the drive. :D

well it got me here anyway with no drama's. Will be enquiring about tubes now that i've got some time. Anyone reccomend anywhere?
