Drove to work this morning to miss the rain this evening, and manged to drive over two nails, so by dinner time flat tyer, and my spare was down, had to get rac out who pumped it up.

Now never having had tube tyers before the landy, so was woundering do i have to buy new tube/s now, for the one with the nail in it? Guessing they are not just a bung job like normal tyers?

Does any one even sell tubes any more?

Or am i going to have to think about upgrading my tyers as well? Rims? the guy seemd to think the spare might be flat if the rims had started to disintigrate, thou how would that work on a tube tyere, sure he just wanted me to buy stuff.
 
think he means he hasn't got tubeless and wonders if you can just patch the inner tube or do you need to buy a new one when they get damaged.

think you can pick one up for a tenner, i'd just do that than muck about patching it

pull nail, replace/repair tube.

I carry a spare tube as well as a spare tyre, then if im away, I can just get the tube put in, as you say, not many places carry tubes, but they can get them in.
 
Ok thanks, will order a new tube had a look this morning, for some and found some on line, new tubes it is.
 
I have been thinking about this and was thinking i might be better off replacing my steel wheels with new ones as they are getting on, and the rac man said he thought the rim might be so bad on the spare that it was no longer keeping pressure.

So can any one tell me what size these are?

Ideally I just want to use the same tyres, after having a look of the price of them, seeing as this is not a planned replacement.
 
Landrover steel wheels have a bigger hole for the valve on tube type wheels. So make sure you get a 'fat valve' type tube. Or a standard valve with a sleeve adapter (because using a standard type valve could cause the tube to rub). If your wheels are rly past it the rust on the inside of the rim could rub against the tube and cause a puncture. Your local tyre fitter can easily remove the tyre and go over the wheel with a wire brush. Just make sure they know tube type landrover wheels have to be fitted upside down compared to most normal wheels.
 
if the xpc is smooth inside then it could work for a tube. if was a factory option by landrover, so maybe they got one for the crossover to tubeless?

afaik, tube rims have a larger hole and are the older type with rivets and can leak with tubeless.

tubless rims have a lip to keep the tyre in place. most tubeless have ribs on the inside, so they can wear through the tubes and tubless rims have too small a hole for tubes.
 
small neck tubes exist, so they will fit "tubeless" rims. I know cos I had one on mine, no sleeve fitted, and it rubbed through on the neck.:mad:

pop into yer local proper tyre place, not kwiks**t and ask em a price, paid £7 for mine for 235/85 size (which is 750/16 tube size)

if you pull the tyre off, it may need a wirebrush on the inside, bits of rust will rub through the tube.
