Two and a half grand 90?

Landys are great, but long journeys aren't the best.

I moved down to Hampshire from Stockport, and have done the journey maybe 10 times now, and its not the easiest - that's 225 miles each way. You get to a point where you miss the extra 10/15 miles an hour you could do in a smaller car.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not changing my landy for anything - but i'm looking at train for when I'm going back to Stockport for a weekend. It's cheaper, comfier and quicker.

But a fender will happily sit at 65/70 all day. (mine will anyway) So why the need for "extra speed"

The tax and test on my current run about (rover 200) is up at the end of may and I very much doubt it will see another test seeing as it came from the scrappys for a couple of hundred quid and I simply don't have the funds to run to vehicles or the space to keep two for that matter.

i bought my 1990 200tdi conversion 90 for £2300. the chassis is in great condition, it doesn't use any oil and apart from a CV joint, wheel bearing and some questionable wiring (now all sorted) it hasn't missed a beat. i drive 40 miles each day to work, and it's great, i sit around 65-70 and its happy. Expect to spend evenings and weekends underneath it, sorting little niggles out. but you will love it. shop around and just be prepared to buy the right thing rather than the first thing and you should be grand. Happy and within budget.

For that money you want standard and solid, but for that mileage you may find you get more Landy for your money and certainly more comfort if you go down the Disco route.

That said, I wouldn't swap my Defender 90 for a Disco, but then it isn't my daily drive either!

I'm not sure what the problem is with doing long trips in a Land Rover. I can drive mine all day and not feel bad at all. I don't use it for work as I live only a few minutes walk away, but pop over to Wales in it regularly (approx. 120 miles) and drive around all day whilst I'm there and it's great. You can see over hedges and over the cars in front too, which makes for a better journey.

This is the next one on the list
Land Rover Defender lr 90 4c 1987

Looks very good on paper. To be fair I had a top end bmw and that killed me after the 135mile trip to Heathrow. My discovery is so much more pleasurable to drive purely based on the tyres not being so damn thin. As long as the radio makes semi pleasant noises and the engine doesn't shake the muscles from your fingers I can't see why it won't be a wonderful drive.

+1 Have driven an Audi A6 in a past life and after 2hrs, get out and can't bloody walk, legs un knees in a reight state

Go for it - I used to drive my 300tdi 70miles each day for work and I loved it, was a bit slower than using my husbands Golf, maybe 5/10 minutes each way but I wouldn't have swopped it.

Well I've found the perfect land rover! Its a C reg from a reputable landy specialists, good solid chassis though the body is tiredish, good wheels and new tyres, long MOT and tax and with a 200 TDI engine too

Only thing is..........its a 110 and its £1000 more than I can afford! Buger!!!!

Hm I don't like the look of that for some reason.

Plus why does he want cash on collection rather than paying through Paypal. At least you're protected with Paypal
