Turn Key and nothing except dash lights.. Help..!

Hi Folks, well with owning my trusty Freelander just over 2 years got in it this morning and all lights but no ignition start .. battery seems fine but no click no nothing... tried a jump to see if battery .. no change.. reads full charged battery on tester ..connected a wire from my battery pos to ign wire on starter nothing .. just connected voltmeter from ing wire to terminal on starter to see if I have full volts on key turn I have this shows current supply ok... Im now thinkings starter/solenoid or may be immobilizer.. any thoughts..?

Check the fuses under the bonet especially the 70 amp that is beside the fuse box sort of between engine and f/box (starter solinoid fuse)that had blown on mine, and they put a new starter so i asked for the old one back to test it and it had gone,

just had this problem m8, i replaced the black part of the ignition switch first(to no avail) then found it was the brown wire was loose on the side of the starter motor, crimped it a bit and been perfect since

I connected the tester to the wire from the loom to the ignition term on solenoide /starter ... turned the key and the voltmeter reads 12v so this would mean theoretically that the conection from the ignition barrel has no fault and that a current is being delivery to the starter... presumeably this makes sense.... I may be wrong ...

how exactly do you test if the fuse is blown...?

I also tried to get the starter unit off ... bit awkard and what size are the bolts ..lol tried at the dodgy angle and cant tell its not 14 9/16 too small 5/8 too loose...

Ok your not going to believe this..... after a few choice swear words and grabbing a long shaft and a hammer to may be give it the old fashioned tap to may be unstick the starter just in case and taking the handbook to check the fuses... my neighbout was standing near by so I went to show him the prob turned the key and bingo it started.. argh,,,,,,,,,,,! Im so annoyed having taking the morning off work being self employed..... damm it ! ok so im now putting this down to moisture causing this .... so armed now with 3 in 1 silcone to give the parts a coating .... started 4 times in a row so my problem dissappeared ... its been rather foggy and mist in the air so maybe this was a huge facter as moisture in boonet area

Did you test the terminal itself OR the wire tTO the terminal. Sometimes a bit of dirt or corrosion can build up preventing the starter engaging. A simple wiggle of the wire can often be enough to clean up the terminal and get the bugger going again.

Ok an update..... I loaded my tools back in the car earlier sprayed the silicon over the elec parts turned off, locked me front door got back in and turned key nothing... had to go back to the old method gave it a tap with hammer and presto this means its the starter... went to work came out pitch black non starter again... dam no torch... rough guess with stick and hammer and started again... so Starter bushes or bits inside need replacing ah welll....

just unclip from holder and it's just a bigger version of the fuses for everything else spade type the bit of metal between was seperated and black went down to Hfords and they had them

I had same problem with mine about May time, the tapping worked, however i had more success jiggling the wires going into the motor. it happened intermittently and has not happened in months now.
