Turbo failure. The signs?

oil in the intake manifold, intercooler and pipework. Excessive side to side and fore and aft play in the turbo shaft. any more than 1mm is worn.
If the oil seal on the exhaust side has gone then there wil be oil in the exhaust.
If a turbo bearing is going then it may sqeal when boosting.
Have you any symptoms?

Might be better to describe symptoms first, rather than the perceived problem and find symptoms to fit!!

Increase in fuel consumption, from 520-540 miles per tank, to 400-420 miles per tank.
Vehicle falling 'off boost' easier.
Ever higher revs needed to get it 'on boost'.
Slight increase in oil consumption.

With 172'500 miles on the clock, I cant find anything in the service history to sugest that it has had a replacement turbocharger.

Intercooler was flushed out and had it's vanes straightened whilst it was off the road in 2008-2009. Turbo pipes replaced.

I'd look at a couple of other things first, though it does sound turbo related.

Injector pump timing and the injectors themselves, or get them set up, not by a Landy dealer, but by a diesel or injector specialist.
