I had a quick look around on the forum and cant see nowt - The push rod at the back of the Turbo on a 200TDi - are you supposed to be able to move that by hand with the injun orf, cos I dont think my turbo is cutting in and it appears to be seized solid, the gate, not the turbo.

Any ways of checking the turbo is working, coz I aint sure on the road either - i certainly dont get the same kick as in the 220Turbo;).

The actuator rod does move by hand, it's quite hard though. It should be able to push backwards towards the bulkhead. Take the inlet hose off the front of the turbo and the compressor blades should be be able to easily spin freely. If none of the above happen, then you probably do have some kind of turbo issue.
The turbo on mine boosts at about 2000rpm and you can hear and feel it a bit.

Hope this helps a wee bit.

well the actuator seems to move, with pliers - snaps back very quick. Taken orf hoses and turbo spins ok. Inside of hoses have a fine smear of oil, but no crud and no delamination. Still dont seem to be as quick as other 200's .

Open the bonnet and squeeze the top intercooler hose with your hand. Rev the engine with your other hand on the throttle linkage. You should feel the hose inflate quite forcibly when the revs hit about 1700 - 2000 rpm. If that doesn't happen there's a problem. If it does, shut the bonnet and have a nice cup of tea, for all is well.

Is the actuator rod on a 300 different to a 200? I can just about move mine by hand towards the front of the engine but not back to the bulkhead. You do have to have really strong hands and fingers though . Dont try to test it by reving the engine , as it only opens when the engine is under load.

you should only be able to move it that way

I was just wondering the same yesterday!!!

Had a split on the elbow hose that goes off the turbo into the IC, so had to replace that, bought some new rubber hoses (hard rubber) and was a fekin pain to fit them..

and then saw that rod and tried to move and it wouldnt..but i was trying to push it in, will need to try and move it towards the bulkhead..
altough I can hear my turbo when driving, so I suppose all is ok..

On a 300 it will only move towards the front of engine bay dont know about 200's. You will need to grip the centre nut to be able to shift the rod forward. It will take considerable force to move it !Are you man enough :D

200tdi is the same they do take a bit of effort to move

My mate had a 200tdi disco which was noticably slower than my 200tdi classic which i put down to being different gearing,he wasn't convinced and started checking everything, filters, intercooler flushing, hoses and so on.He even connected a boost gauge to the turbo vac pipe tho check it was boosting correctly which it was.In the end he gave up and just used the car until 1 day it lost all power and couldn't go over 25mph.Turned out to be the fuel injection pump and after changing it she drove like never before, almost as quick as the rangy. We were both suprised how the pump had caused such a strange fault for so long without showing any obvious signs of fault.

Boost guages are good, even if lashed up tempo just to see if alls working.
Another issue than can cause symptoms like a fecked turbo is the exhaust, seen them collapse inside the silencer not allowing gases to escape, restricting power and not allowing turbo to spool up proper.

i got a boost gauge on mine, its nice to see whats going on i put it in so i could turn the boost up but not done that yet

ho god.. that's not good to know
I've lost all my power since changing the turbo hoses, but dont think there's a leak there, there isnt much wrong to go with jubilee clips..

Only the week before last the jubilee clip on the manifold end of the hose from the intercooler to the manifold decided to give up on mine...it wouldn't tighten up....symptoms were lack of power and black smoke trying to go over 50 up hill...none of the usual leaking hose noises though...so it might be worth you double checking your jubilee clips if you have changed your hoses.

btw...I expect (or hope) wreckhunter means lift pump, not injection pump, thats a much cheaper, easier fix

yeh... a couple of them "clicked" when i was tighten them up, but i think this only makes them go one step back? but still leave them tighten?

might be worth getting new ones no?

Mine clicked when I did it up after taking it off while I was changing the P Gasket...it was a couple of weeks later it gave up all together..the pipe was coming off the inlet manifold. I guess it was clicking before it was tight enough
