HI,
I have a 2002 TD5 Discovery. I am looking in to the options of tuning it for beter drivability and mpg. I am only looking at a remap initially not gong for any new bits..

The options I have seen so far are as follows..
Dynachip - remap
TD5 Alive - remap
Chipexpress.com - plug in unit that leaves the old map as it was.

Are there any others worth looking at?
What sort of price is reasonable?
What sort of increases should I be looking at?

thanks for your help.

Dynachip seems to have a great reputation !.

Dont get too hooked up on the numbers though, ( bhp and torque ), a remap just makes the car nicer to drive.

Del.

Thanks, I will rop them a line next week and see what sort of gains they acn give me. I need some numbers to get a quote from the ins company.

How much did your premiums go up by?

Did anybody tried bigger intercooler that td5alive suggests? and also tried their boost controller?
I just want to power up my D2 TD5... because on 265/75 its still little bit slow above 120 km/h

Spoke to Mike at Dynachip, got some figures, now waiting for the reply from the ins company....

Hi,

Yesterday I had my Intercooler changed (Uk supplier) nearby Barcelona.
They strongly recommended Intercooler + Remap altoghether due to increased reliability. If not, remapping would be done a little "lighter".

In 2 weeks I will get remap...

Unfortunately they found oil in the ECU and I will have to change cables next week...

My car is 2001 TD5 and has already 130,000 km´s on it clock, and although it is not unsual to have this problem I frankly did not have any symptons of ECU soaked with oil, and did not check

I have a Spanish friend that went this route and is extremely satisfied.

If I can provide any info of interest just let me know

Cheers,

Hmm how much does cost intercooler and how do you wanna make remap? is your ecu reflashable? cos mine is not.

In order to remap a non-reflashable ECU you have to open the box. Take it out, connect it to a computer, reprogram, and then put it back where it was welding it !! It is not an easy process, but with experienced hands you can do it...

Otherwise you have to buy an newer ECU with a connector, and discard the old one. Since I will not do it myself I will let a professional to just do the welding and remapping...

You do not need to discard your early ECU. What you need is someone like Gary at TD5Alive who can take out the old non flashable soldered memory chip, replace it with a socket, then program a new flashable chip with your map before simply plugging it into the new onboard socket. Then you have the equivalent of the later ECU units and at a lot cheaper cost. Granted its not something you can do with a normal soldering iron and it takes years of practice, specialist tools and knowledge but dont be too hasty with your early ECUs.

anyone know wher eor how you can get new map files, i mean td5 alive and dnachip all do them and then sell them on at a price, but if you have a nanocom then all you need is a new map file, surely there must be a way to tweak it your self or by a map file at a lot cheaper price.

You could download your existing map and then using a suitable hex editor start changing stuff but how do you know what to tweak and by how much? A fuel map is merely a hexadecimal data file which to the normal bloke is a mess of numbers and letters. There are no convenient labels saying "change this to do that".

You pay the likes of TD5Alive for their knowledge and experience. They also have invested in the expensive equipment to make the changes. Its not something you should attempt lightly.

I agree but what i am saying is that when the car rolls out the factory all the ecu maps are exactly the same, so whats to stop someone like td5 alive or dynachip offering people with a nanocom a standard imprived map file for a sensible price like £50 to £100?

got a call back from the NFU yesterday, a remap will increase the premium 20% - does this sound about the average?
