Hi guys,
First time poster aswell as first time Land Rover owner. Was bought 3rd hand almost 2 weeks ago. Runs brilliantly and honestly it’s a fantastic motor, especially for an 54 plate.

Anyway, i work early hours of the morning, so I tend to set off for work around 2am, when it’s obviously rather cold in the night. It’s always been a slow starter in the cold, but these past few days it really doesn’t want to start until after about 25/30 seconds of turning it over. And then once it starts it always produces a cloud of white smoke.
On occasion it’s been the same in the afternoon/midday when it’s had chance to warm up a little, but that’s only the odd occasion.
I’m curious to know what the issue could be, if there is one, or if they just take a while to start up the especially in the cold? Am I doing any damage by keeping it turning over until it starts?

Also, on a separate note, when it’s been run for a large majority of the day (especially a warm day) I notice that when I’m stationary or in 1st gear, the car seems very “animated”, for lack of a better word. It almost feels like it’s chugging, if that makes sense? The whole car seems to shake and bounce a little. It could because it’s quite warm and been run for a while, but the temperature shows as being fine so I’d rather err on the side of caution and get some information or advice on it.

Thanks in advance and hopefully someone can help with these two issues!
Jamie

Hi and welcome.

Sounds like a classic case of leaking High Pressure Regulator O rings.
When the O rings begin to leak, fuel pressure is slow to build, which means the injectors don't spray correctly, which doesn't burn, hence the smoke when it finally starts.
