mantec dont put prices on there website but if you email or ring them they will give prices they will also post direct if you dont have a mantec stockest near you ive always found them very helpful . the sump guard is the best thing to start off with i tried putting a 6mm plate over the original lr frame and it helps but i just kept bending it so in the end bought a mantec guard really strong i have cracked a weld once but that was doing something i maybe shouldnt have done. but it was easy enough to take it to a local welders to be welded up but ive never bent it . first upgrade i would say then tyres then lift kit and spacers :)

Yep. A sump guard. Got it as I needed it quick, fer a LR show off road couse. Had to take it back to get it welded as I was "quote" too rough wiff it "unquote" :5bsmilielol5:but they did it fer free un everyfing is ok now.

If yer planning on rufty tufty off roading, then a Freelander may not be what you need. You'd be betterer getting another vehicle which is higher off the ground, and wiff a low range, like the rust bucket in your pic above. That looks like it's had the back end chopped off, lifted wiff bigger tyres.

Perhaps take your Freelander for some light green laning, or to a pay and play site to see if it's somethng you want to do more of. them splash out on bit or another vehicle if thats what you want to do.

It was interesting watching that vid. Every time you came down a steep hill you were using your brakes continuously - which is one area where low ratio would normally be engaged. How does the ABS handle the circuit when it's wet?

I think in most the down hill bits I was using hdc, to see what it was like on the slopes. Think it puts the brake lights on, but can't remember. Don't always use it. Prefer to shaddow the brakes manually. Have been to the site when it's wet too, but not sorted out the video. The biggest difference is gravity. If there's a chance you can slide to one side, then it will. This is purely down to grip and gravity. All vehicles were doing it on the day. Trying to drive out of ruts gives the same problem. Again all vehicles had the problem, if meeting someone in the opersit direction. Steering becomes a big vague at times due to the same reason. Tyres make a difference here, but thinking ahead of your route is key to gettng through. The abs is quite happy. You do get issues where abs and etc can't coerrect itself, like on snow, which is simular to wet mud. No amount of abs/etc or phooter technology can correct over speed if it's seriously over the top, or your taking the **** trying the where there's no grip. Down hill is ok if you take it slow. hdc will still do that, if it can get grip. Only need one wheel wiff grip, but thats a risk if it's too steep. The first steep hill in the vid seems to be closed when it's wet. But this may be due to peeps trying it and digging in ruts when wet. Uphill is a bit of a struggle if the rocks in the mud are slippy. abs and etc will kick in to help, but getting the correct speed of 1st at 1800 to 2000 revs for a v6 auto is vital to get the abs un etc working when needed, wiff enough power to get up the slopes. Some of the slopes are a struggle to walk up. And I lost me footing going down one, and ended up running down it, and across the flat into the woods to stop. Didn't realise at the start, but driving up the hill to put the camcorder at the top, then driving down would have been easier. Wiffout abs and etc I wouldn'y try that site in the wet in a Freelander. Even the tratters had issues wiff spinning wheels wiff standard diff lock and no diff lockers. Those wiff locking diff were betterer off, but when wet gravity has the final say more often. all in all a good day, but wiff 70 vehicles on site it got a big crowded when peeps block the route to chat.
 
Don't waste your money on the snorkel. If you're worried about water spend that money on a 50mm lift kit but you won't won't want too take it that deep anyway cos of the electrics like you said before.

A sump guard is a must. It's pretty to make your own for about £30 for the alu.

Yeah I did think of that except mine is missing, hence asking about measurements.

Looks like it was snapped off coz someone was to lazy to remove it properly.
