Dunno what TF would say, but I say good for them!
Whatever we all think, and do, most of the TF/Glass et al recommendations are just that .. recommendations and not law or enforceable. We all mostly stick to the recommendations 'cos it appears to appease the bobbles .. and it's easier to manage a small group on the lanes .. even 6 vehicles can easily get spread out and become 5 very quickly.
There are times when common sense says that groups will come together or can't be easily (reasonably?) split up, but so what? What difference does it actually make if there's a group of 20, say, or 4 groups of 5? I suggest that, as I said above, the 'real' reason we do it is for appearances sake and to stop the bobbles from having the pictures to say we're causing problems.
I'm becoming more militant about this and often think stuff 'em, the lanes are open to drive, so drive them! I'll still try to stick to small groups, mostly if I'm honest for the logistics of it, but, as above if I can't, I won't beat myself up about it unduly!
