Few years ago I had a works hire car (ford focus) which didn't need the "key" fob thing connected to the car to start it. It sensed it was there and allowed yer to press the start button then drive it oft. Locking it was fun too as it dun't lock propper if the fob is too close. So I chucked the key across the grass so as not to damage it.

Land rover have similar on their vehicles. I drove a D4 on a LR experience day and it too had a "walk away without locking" option which locked it when the fob was out of distance. A feature some may like but for me it's a total nightmare.

I like to fix ma hippo outside our house. I need him unlocked to do this. If he were one of the newer vehicles (I assume the FL2 has this option too) then I wouldn't be able to leave him unlocked while I work on him, with the fob in ma pocket, which allows it to be started if someone presses the start button.

Have I gone mad or is this a concern to others?

Car won't start unless the key is inside the car and the clutch or brake pedal is pressed (manual or auto)

Also the car doesn't lock itself when you walk away you have to press a button on the door (once to lock, twice to super lock)

Interesting. So in theory if you put the fob inside the car and foot on brake (auto) and press the start button until it lights up and starts, then move the fob away from the FL2, does it cut the engine or somehow stop being driven away?

Does the auto on electric hand brake apply itself when the auto is in neutral when stationary?

Hi if you've started the engine and then take the key out of the car then the engine will still continue to run and a warning message on the dash appears along the lines of smart key not found.

Once you turn the engine off then you cannot restart it unless the key is in the car. There is nothing to stop the car being driven away without the key.

And the electric handbrake does not auto apply on LR product when the auto is in neutral and the car is stationary.
