Hi All Have a whinning noise in first and second but only when warm/hot if i select neutral and free wheel noise disappears gearbox works fine in fact everything does its just a horrible noise replaced front n/s wheelbearing in jan as well as the engine after a flex plate disintegration so any advice welcome
cheers sandy

Firstly check oil level in the gear box, if it’s low, I would then drain the oil and look for metal bits in the oil. If you do find bits in the oil it’s more than likely the gear box is worn and will need taking apart, having said than I have known a worn gear boxes to go on and on, but it will get worse, taking the gear box out is not for the faint hearted.

the gearbox was drained when we put the new engine in but of course i didnt look at the fluid so it only has about 8k use would that be enough or should i runit a bit longer? thanks for the advice by the way

I think if your gear box was running ok up until recently, and is now making noises that’s when the break down has happened, and I would think if there is a problem of parts breaking down within the gear box there should be some show of particles in the oil now. It could be warn synchromesh springs and cones

I will drain and have a look it has been making this noise for the last 25k miles and as i said sometimes it does and sometimes it doesnt - I might just replace the lot Ashcroft do a gearbox replacement for 650 quid a transfer box for 195 and diffs for 90 each so less than a grand - its a lot of dough but i have done the suspension brakes wheelbearings engine full exhaust and o rings and blend motors and intend to keep the beast till she dies so it might be worth the expense - what does everyone think
