transmission failure

my reccomendations to any body wishing to purchase an automatic freelander is dont, nothing but trouble with transmission. according to dealer they get at least 1 a week coming in with same problems land rover admits to it but even if your 2 weeks past warranty period ,your on your own, im so disgusted with them ,especially after seeing all the others having problems, im seriously considering to commence a class action against land rover, any other recent transmission failures i would love to hear from you ,

Well that didn't fill me with confidence at all bearing in mind i have a 2003 auto. However there are 2 of these in my family, both 2003 models, mine is on 24000 miles, and my dads is on 45000 miles. Neither has ever had any trouble (they have command shift). They both still shift as smoothly if not more than any auto ive driven!

I wasnt aware there was even an autobox issue. My Land Rover grarage (independent, not affiliated to Land Rover or Dealers) has given me glowing reviews and said they have never had any trouble with them.

Whats the actual issue?

Hi sorry only replaced 2 auto gearboxes in 4 yrs 1 td4 1 v6 due to harsh gear change both done under warranty,as long as you have full service history landrover will replace major parts upto 3 months after warranty has run out,find a good dealership,there was a recall due to harsh gearchange and holding in gears,the speed sensor and ecu were changed but only on certain gearbox numbers not on all early ones mainly,this fixed 99% of problems hope this helps,tiga.

Thanks, im certainly breathing a little easier. Must admit, having bought my TD4 just before the new face one came out give me a certain security (however minimal) that by the end of the line, enough minor changes had been made to it since 1998 or whenever it first came out for it to be a little more reliable.

I have a harsh gear change from 3rd to 4th but it only happens when the engine is still cold.well, now what i do is when the engine still cold i use steptronic and only run the car up till 50km/h and leave it up to 3rd. once its got warm up i will shift to 4th.so far it does the trick for me.is this the kind of harsh gear change you guys are talking about?!
