transfer box problems 200tdi

took it out last night and had trouble selecting low range, after 3 attemps it stayed in. when i went to put it back in high it keeps jumping out.

spoke to a garage and got told to strip the top down and wd40 all the linkages as it was probably rust or dirt. this hasnt really helped tho.

anyone any ideas?? thanks

It does sound like a lack of use. Have u tried to select high/low while in gear and letting the clutch out slowly so the transfer gears mesh. In drive if u have an auto.

Thats how I have to do it sometimes or the lever will pop back into neutral.

That is actually the correct way to do it.

On mine when switching from H->L or L->H I sometimes have to put the transfer box in neutral, main box in a gear and let clutch up for a few seconds. Then take out of main gear and try selecting H or L again. Usually does the trick first time.

I've also found being quick and positive with the transfer change while moving slowly about 5 mph is often more successful too. Get moving slow, step on the clutch and shift the transfer gear quick. Don't know if my technique is quite right here though as I usually get a short sharp crunch when doing this but it does go in and stays in. When this fails, I go back to the first method.

Main gearbox into 1st, foot on clutch, push the transfer box lever into high or low depending which one you want. Keep pressure on the lever and lift the clutch slightly you will feel the transfer box drop nicely into gear. Job's a good un.

I'll try this next time, sounds much better and quicker than my crappy solution!!

not much luck im afraid. it is better since the wd40 on the linkages, as its not coming out of high now. it is making a nocking/crunch sort of noise as if its trying to come out still though. surly this is waring the box out. anyone any other ideas?? the oil was changed only a few hundred miles ago.

Hello

you need to adjust the lever it has a thread with a nut either side of hollow tube this is what needs adjusting make a note of how many threads are visible at the top so you have a datam in case you go the wrong way sorry I can't tell you wheter to go up or down.
