Hi guys

I've got a very bad noise coming from my transfer box, I'm almost certian that's where it's coming from. It sounds like a bearing; a kind of "ech...ech...ech...ech" that gets faster as you do, so I'm assuming a bearing of some kind? the oil level is Ok (again I think; up to the grub screw on the back of the box?), but then I know it's got a slight leak, noitced when I checked out the the noise, put EP90 in up to the grub screw and have kept a eye on the level. Also the rear UJ is a bit fooked and I'm due to change it very soon.

So any ideas of what the noise could be? Where it's coming from? And can I do anything about it?

Many thanks

SPT

Pack loads of grease into your rear UJ via the grease nipple and liberally applied and packed in with fingers externally. If that cures it, it's the UJ. If not, UJ and something else is on the way out ;)

remove the rear prop , apply diff lock and go for a short . carefull drive , if you hear the noise its not the uj/prop.
put the tranny box in neuteral and drive it up and down the main gears , is it quiet?
