Hi, new member and I know the questions been asked a thousand times but mine has a slight twist. Trans fail safe mode only in warm weather? I brought the car in winter and the issue was not present… When the weather warmed up all summer I have been have trouble with TFSM problem….. how I have been getting around it is this. Turn ignition on (not start the car) TFSM appears….. Select neutral….. turn ignition back off then on again and message has gone…. Now this may in worse cases have to be repeated if the transmission is having a real bad day but generally works….. Now the weather has cooled again the problem rarely happens…. Strange I know! A little history of the vehicle… 2002 petrol vogue L322. it has covered 105000 miles and had a new gear box fitted at 65000 miles. Before I brought the vehicle it had had a recent new battery and gear box oil changed, which now makes me think the problem was present with the previous owner…. Also I should add that on those hot days that I was having trouble some time it would start fine but once I touched the selector stick (even ever so lightly) the TFSM message would show. Also some times on long journeys the gear selection changes from around 2500rpm as normal to having to reach 4500-5000 rpm before changing?. I rectify this by stopping turning ignition off and restarting. The vehicle has a slight mind of its own at times to… whether this is related I don’t know but the central locking at times locks all doors apart from drivers door and the lock pin on top of the door card goes up and down several times. I is forever showing faults…. Low coolant, number plate light, side lights…etc when there is no actual fault and to top it off the air suspension has stop working to now ….. can any help? Are these problems related? Where should I start?

Many thinks in advance.

I agree a new known battery would help as RR is VERY sensitive to Voltage.
Change gearbox oil and filter. If new gearbox then perhaps oil should have been changed earlier than usual? If gearbox still has original oil for 40k miles then that would be my first port of call.
If slow to change, add some magic valve cleaning stuff as recommended by Datatek in a thread ages ago. Sorry I can't remember what its called.

the higher revs before changing can be the over heat strategy and overheating can be caused by the lower rad blocking and not cooling the oil cooler which would back up your summer issue but you normally get trans overheat message . Gear selector switch could be faulty and the door lock internals can fail and random light errors on mine were caused by crap LED number plate light bulbs but first off I would get some decent diagnostics like all comms and start working your way through as all types of problems can be caused by seemingly unrelated faults.

Thanks for your replies,
It has a new battery fitted, it had as stated previously had a new rad and oil change recently.( I am guessing the previous owner had this issue and implemented the above to try and rectify the problem) I feel as if its a sensor/switch issue or an over heating issue where should I start? diagnostics? or is there any other renowned issues to check first.
P.S can any one help me with finding a range rover mechanic in the Essex/Romford area who knows there way around the L322 but isn't going to need me to re-mortgage my house to pay for the bill? I cant stand giving problems like this to have-ago mechanics returning the vehicle a week later with no improvement and loads of new parts.
Please read my other post concerning air suspension and reply if you can help pleeeease.

How old is the battery? Have you thrown a meter at it to check voltages?

It's not unknown for new or nearly new batteries to be fubar.

it had as stated previously had a new rad
Stated where exactly ??o_O
I think diagnostics or hope Bemble or Saint chip in :)
Mine kept going into overheat mode when the main connector going into the shift motor was slightly lose and certainly sounds like a lose connection if it only happens when you touch the selector
