Hi all,

Iv been reading up on regs for towing, I'm fully aware of my combined weights and trailers weights and all that balls for towin without a licence (as I'm 24 need a separate licence to tow)

How ever. Nothing is very clear on towing another vehicle??? I know technically anything peing pulled is classed as a trailer, so am I nt allowed to tow a manned car/van????

Last thing I want is 6 points for no licence and a further 3 for no insurance!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

A broken down vehicle is not a trailer.

It still needs tax, mot and insurance so therefore cannot be a trailer.

Section 6, subsection 7 of the road lighting regs will also aid in proving this as it has the lighting requirements for towing a brokendown vehicle which are completely different to that of a trailer.

Probably correct there although I was told that once you fix an A frame it becomes a trailer? So then would that mean the sorn vehicle could be towned?

So the only way to tow a vehicle with a sorn is on a trailer? Right?

Correct.

No. There are 2 different sets of rules though. One set for towing a broken down vehicle and one set for towing a vehicle that hasn't broken down.

Either way the vehicles wheels are still on the ground so it would still require tax, mot and insurance.
