Yesterday I attempted to tow my stuck mate from his house, which is in a valley, up a fairly steep farm drive, in the ice. I first tried halfway up in reverse, but got absolutley nout, I just could not get the traction, then I tried with a run up, straight in 2nd Low, but we looked in our mirrors and discovered we had pulled the towing eye out of his 5 series BMW....

How easy would a 2.25 derv tug a car up an icy hill? He gave up after the towing eye incident. I understand from halfway up i wouldnt get traction or grip.

A landy wont grip when theres no grip to have.Towing in snow is helped by tyres- mt or at seem good in the white stuff.Ice is slippery and theres no tyre pattern for it.Studs or chains might help but arent a gareunte of grip.

I fortunately got a set of Pirelli Ice & Snow tyres on Disco rims for my Series, my Muds are hopeless in ice or compacted snow. Winter Tyres are fantastic in anything under 7C. I've got them on my Espace too, no problem driving anywhere.
