Bought my tow bar with electrics ( not the plug in type ) do i just cut the wires and join the towbar electrics and buzzer to the car wire loom at the plug in the back of the car ?. thanks in advance , by the way its a 03 serangeti

if you are competent ,yes, you need a different flasher relay, (5 pin) to make the trailer light oin the dashboard work, look in faq for wiring codes and colours.

No dont cut the wires. Use insulation displacement connectors so that the wires to the rear of the car are not broken. If you use the screw block type of connectors the wire is not properly supported and the conductor, already work-hardened by the screw can fail in fatigue due to vibration. In decent connectors the cable is supported on the insulation so that bending is not applied to the conductor in the connector.

If you can obtain the LR plug you will also need a crimping tool to fold the wire clamp properly and they cost £50+ .

Someone may tell us if LR supply the cable assembly without the ironwork, i.e. plug socket cable and grommet.

Done mine by replacing the standard socket with an 8 way lucar conector - then made up the bar end to plug in.
If you leave it as is - check out this link http://www.mm-4x4.com/towing-electrics-383-c.asp
It's the sort of thing you'll need.

you can just buy the pre-wired socket with a plug on the end which just plugs into the plug behind the trim in the boot.

it's about £45, last saw one on ebay when I looked
