I am new on here so hello everyone, right I will cut to the chase I have just bought a 2000 TD5 to tow my caravan and it already has a tow bar and single electrics, I need to fit the gray socket electrics to run the fridge etc in the caravan, now a mate told me there is a socket already on the car that I can just plug in is this true and if so where and I guess it would be a landrover part, also I am not the world greatest mechanic so is it that simple or is this something I will have to pay someone to do for me....
any help would be appreciated

Yes there is a socket already fitted, it's behind the off side rear light, just undo the screws, remove the light, and look down wards inside, you'll see a socket with a plastic cap.
You can wire one up yourself, but it is far easier to bite the bullet and get the LR wiring loom, it is very easy to fit as it comes with easy picture type instructions.

dose that go for a 300 as well or just on td5's

bloody hell... i wish i knew that, i fitted on to a friends disco about 3 weeks ago.. took blumin ages and a pain in the deriare locating the correct wires to tap into..:(

tbh i didnt even think of looking on here, as i have done loads of these... i bet there is this socket on mine...... i fitted mine the long way.......oh well i know for next time....

unless i have read it wrong whitey1973 was after fitting the 12s grey socket, for his fridge etc.
isn't the connection behind the r/o/s light just for the plug and play 12n black socket, indicators, lights, brakes etc ?

Yes it is. and the price the stealers charge for the plug in loom is a rip off. much cheaper to cut the socket off and fit spade connnectors to the wires

I have rang the main stealers and to supply the socket and wiring loom in
.

wait for it .

.£130.00
and fitted its around the £300 mark

as mentioned earlier it is the gray one for fridge etc and the TD5 only has a socket for the normal trailer ones (black socket) the newer discovery 3 has a socket for both so I will be trying the breakers and fleebay.

right here we go I have established that I need to wire up a pre 98 grey caravan socket and from another thread I have the wiring colour code

pin 1 - yellow - reversing light
pin 2 - blue - caravan battery or charger
pin 3 - white - earth
pin 4 - green - constant 12v feed
pin 5 - brown - sensing device
pin 6 - red - refridgerator
pin 7 - black - spare

right I am not going to pay out the sort of money that the stealers want so I wounder if someone can point me in the direction of the best places to scotch lock into on me car.
again any help would be appreciated

I am having similar issues and would much prefer to fit the right 12s wiring to the existing loom but cannot find any for sale anywhere and definitely don't want to pay stealership prices.. anyone seen any recently?
