Hi all just made a tow bar for my 2001 freelander ive got the bolts sorted for the chassis but what size and length are the ones in the rear x member? i know that they are an odd bolt size your help needed thanks

this is not going to be helpful, the long bolts that go up into chassis are a metric thread with a fine pitch thread, 1.25 mm i think, common pitch is 1.5 mm, therefore as these bolts are not standard they are difficult to purchase from just anybody, it took me about three hours to make my towbar, and at least three weeks to source bolts.

Yeah same here there is a place near me which have got some of these bolts but they only stock one length.

Also worth bearing in mind that as of 2009 the tow bar and its fixings / anchorage to chassis is part of the MOT test.

the reason for the fine thread is they screw into captive nuts in the floor pan, if these were accessible and could be removed, you could then use nyloc nuts, point about the mot is the towbar should have a CE plate and a rating.

thanks rusty, pleased about lack of markings, i remember reading some scary warnings in the press about the inclusion of tow bar in mot tests, for a change it looks as if common sense has prevailed, sure makes a change.

Thanks every one the tow bar i made i copyed off my mates freelander but made heavier though im a welder by trade so the welds and structure will pull a tank i hope and cheap to make also.

I took the tow bar off my wifes freelander when she sold it, and used the bar to make an extension pole.

I've got all the bolts if anyone wants them and willing to pay the postage they can have them for free, just the price of the postage

First come first served

PS. It was an 03 model Freelander
