Tow bar bolts

I’ve recently purchased a second hand tow bar and was told to get a tap to clean out the m14 holes at the rear, does anyone know what pitch these bolts are please, thanks

Its unlikely to be worth your expense to buy a tap, they can be quite expensive, just cover a bolt with oil, run it in and out and wipe it off, repeat a few times cleaning the thread out with brake cleaner or even wd40 would do the job.

You could also try cutting a slot in the thread along the length of a spare bolt and run that through, helps to scrape out the crud in the female thread.

Hi, you might be best getting hold of a thread pitch guage or pop to any engineering firm & they can measure the pitch for you, before running bolts through, std pitch is probably 1.75 or 2.00. Having just done radius arm bushes on mine I know the m16 bolts are 1.50 fine pitch items (so they can take a higher torque) which might be the same for other 'high' load items like tow bars.

I’ve not sorted it, job well done now just got to do the electrics, thanks for the help
