Morning,

Never had a tow bar or a trailer and now I'm looking to buy both for camping adventures.

Q- I have a big black girder underneath at the back of my car so am i right in thinking that i only need to source a tow ball now? Is there one that fits most trailers as I've seen standard balls and a swan neck thingy?

Will put a wanted ad in the correct section but if anyone has either a towbar or a good trailer they want to sell then let me know please.

Illegally laundered money waiting for the seller!

Need to be careful here. If by 'Big Black girder', you mean there is one immediately behind the bumper then you should be ok, but if you are referring to the rear crossmember then you will need the additional 'girder'. (There should be two effectively that the towbar mount bolts across).

I bought a removable swan neck towbar on fleabag. They are a little thin on the ground (especially if you need the 'girder' as well) but they do come up - sometimes for silly prices. I think I paid £40 for mine though and it was the complete kit (ie including all the bolts too!).

The ball sizes are all the same regardless of the type of towbar you get.

Trailer electrics are another thing you will probably need. There is a chap on ebay (can't remember his name now) who has these made up and sells them very reasonably (£25, I think I paid). His kits plug straight into the socket behind the o/s rear light cluster as per the oem item - you really don't want to get into splicing wires on these things!
