Hi chaps ..

Done a filter and ATF change on a TD5 and refitted a new gasket in the process, despite torque setting on the refit done to spec, it subsequently leaked after a period of 2 -3 weeks ( which I found odd )
Nipped it up a fair bit on each point and all ok, but now over torqued ..
Is it acceptable to overtightenen or should I remove and redo the gasket and reseat.

How accurate is your torque wrench, guess you had it calibrated in the last 6 months?

TBH I am told most non high end industrial units are not that accurate.

torque setting isnt essential , i rarely use one other than head bolts, the auto box sump fasteners are tight when the block meets the box face

According to RAVE, "Oil sump to gearbox housing bolts" [Automatic box] 8Nm (6 lbf.ft).
Since that setting is usually right at the bottom end of most DIY torque wrenches it's not really possible or practical to set accurately. In the absence of an accurate setting Plan B (as shown in James' post above) applies.
