This has been discussed already on this forum, and I've spent a while reading the previous posts. But I'd like to ask again about potentially mixing Power Steering fluids (PSF), as the information is not clear:
I bought my D2 about six months ago and the PSF level was at the minimum mark on the reservoir. It has stayed the same over these last six months but it has been one of my jobs to get some more fluid and top it up.
The Haynes manual recommends Texaco Cold Climate.. but this is not available. I spent too long looking on the web for alternatives, but there is no consistency on suitable alternative brands on the UK parts websites. I thought about spending £30 on the Land Rover brand, but then, based on information contained on this site, I bought a litre of Dexron 2 (on sale for £4.74).
Now, when I picked it up expected this to be green, but it is red. The existing fluid in my reservoir is black.
My D2 does not have ACE, so there is only one reservoir for PSF.
Is it okay to top up with this Dexron 2? I was going to gradually replace the existing fluid by syringing the old liquid out and topping up with the new.
Can someone please advise whether it is okay to mix this red Dexron 2 with the pre-existing fluid?
Thanks,
Andrew
